Henry Darcy’s The Public Fountains of the City of Dijon
Patricia Bobeck's presentation will include biographical information about Henry Darcy, discussion of the 1856 book, and photographs of the present-day remains of Darcy’s water supply system.
About Henry Darcy:
Henry Darcy (1803-1858) was a civil engineer who spent most of his working life in Dijon France. His major accomplishments are Dijon’s water supply system (1830s-1840s) and the routing of the railroad through Dijon (1840s).
He wrote The Public Fountains of the City of Dijon in 1856 to describe the planning and construction of the water system.
Patricia Bobeck translated the book into English, and the book won the inaugural S. Edmund Berger Prize for Excellence in Scientific and Technical Translation in 2004.
Dr. Anne Cirella-Urrutia, presents La Bécassine

Surgie en 1905 dans la Semaine de Suzette, créée par Caumery et Pinchon, mi-poupée, mi-pantin, Bécassine est inoubliable avec son rond visage aux petits yeux, sa robe verte et son tablier de gouvernante. Libérée peu à peu de "la voix de son maître" au point de prendre la plume et d'écrire sa propre histoire, en lieu et place de l'auteur masculin qui l'a enfantée.
Anne Cirella-Urrutia a obtenu un doctarat dans le domaine des littératures comparées à l'Université du Texas à Austin en 1998 et un Diplôme d'Études Approfondies en études anglo-saxonnes à l'université Paul Valéry à Montpellier . Elle enseigne le français à Huston-Tillotson University à Austin au Texas depuis 2001.
