Alison Greene, soprano, will sing a French repertoire, she will be accompagnied by Julie Loeb Sacks. Includes a buffet reception with wine.
Alison Greene, soprano, is a native of Houston, Texas but spent three years in Paris, France as a teenager. While in Paris, she discovered her love of singing and began her vocal studies, and was also fortunate to take her weekly piano lessons on Cole Porter’s piano at the American Cathedral. She went on to study in Boston, Massachusetts, eventually earning a Master’s Degree in Vocal Performance from Boston University.
Over the past several seasons, Alison has been featured as a soloist or principal artist with many Houston performing arts organizations, including the St. Cecilia Chamber Music Society, Divergence Vocal Theatre, Opera in the Heights, the Houston Gilbert and Sullivan Society, and Opera Vista. She has performed with Houston Grand Opera as Barbarina with members of the Houston Grand Opera Studio in the alternate cast of Le Nozze di Figaro, and a Madrigal Singer in HGO’s Manon Lescaut. Regional credits in Texas include Dew Fairy in Amarillo Opera’s production of Hansel and Gretel and Sister Genevieve in Puccini’s Suor Angelica with the St. Cecilia Chamber Opera Series. Some of her other favorite roles performed include Norina in Don Pasquale, Mabel in Pirates of Penzance, Susanna in Le Nozze di Figaro, Zerlina in Don Giovanni, Olympia in the Tales of Hoffman, and Musetta in La Boheme. Alison resides in Houston, Texas, with husband Keir Murray (an Alliance member) and daughter Miranda.
Pianist Julie Loeb Sacks is a staff accompanist at the University of Houston Moores School of Music, and is also enjoying a new-found love in teaching pre-school music. She has been on the faculty of the American Festival for the Arts in the piano/chamber music departments since 2004, and from 2001-2007 served as staff pianist for the renowned Meadowmount School for Strings in New York. She has been a clinician for piano workshops, an adjudicator, composer/arranger, a choir director, and a church/synagogue pianist. A passionate chamber musician and art song recitalist, Julie performed for several seasons with Col Canto, an ensemble dedicated to the preservation and performance of the Art Song repertoire. She often serves as accompanist for the Houston Symphony Chorus and is an official staff pianist of the Entergy Young Texas Artists Competition.
Julie has performed around the country, including her 2000 New York City debut, an art song recital with soprano Adele Crawford, formerly of the Metropolitan Opera. Other performances include the Channing Concert Series, the Houston Grand Opera Education Department, Corpus Christi Young Artist Competition, Opera in the Heights, Katy Performing Arts Society, Encore School for Strings, Gilbert & Sullivan Society, Masquerade Theatre, Cleveland Art Song Festival and TUTS. She has been heard on radio broadcasts in Cleveland, New York, and Houston. Awards include the Koldofsky Prize in Collaborative Piano and the Edna Ocker Accompanist Award. Julie is a graduate of the Cleveland Institute of Music, the University of Texas, and studied at the Music Academy of the West and Eastern Music Festival. Her teachers and mentors include Anne Epperson, William Race, Gustavo Romero, Danielle Martin, and Jean Deutsch. She lives in Houston with husband Steve and children Ryan, Jacob and Maya.
